I have always been most inspired to write when I surround myself with visual media that resonates or sparks an idea for a story. So it's a very personal decision for me to make Skywrite a home to visual art.

At Skywrite we are dedicated to keeping the humanity in artwork. To this end we have an ongoing micro-residency designed to support artists while also making Skywrite a more visually interesting place for authors.

We don't want bland stock or Ai generated artwork here. We do not accept artists that use Ai to generate their art. We commission pieces specifically for Skywrite. They can belong to your existing project or body of work too, but we want to encourage you to make something new not just sell one of your existing pieces. Further, we will place your name and links on our pages so you get credit.

Commissioned by Skywrite (skywrite.so), a privacy-first app for serious writers.

Linking back to the site helps us grow the program and continue commissioning work.

Rights

  • You retain ownership of your work.
  • We receive a non-exclusive license to use it across Skywrite, including the site, app, and marketing.
  • You are free to use the piece in your portfolio or elsewhere.

How it works

  • We select artists on a rolling basis.
  • Commissions are one-off, with no long-term obligation.
  • Direction is minimal. We are interested in your interpretation.

This is meant to be sustainable. We keep budgets modest, expectations clear, and creative freedom high. Over time, the goal is to build a body of work that reflects both the artists involved and the spirit of creative writing itself.
